Help me give my students supplies to improve their take-home art kits during distance learning. This project would provide tempera paint for my year two students and high quality paper and erasers for the rest.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hardworking, caring kids. Over 80% of my students qualify for the free and reduced-price meal program.
These are kids that have very little exposure to the arts, but a yearning to know more.
Many of them come from homes with parents who work long hours and are not able to afford the extracurricular activities that would enhance their children's life experiences. These are parents who want a lot for their kids but just don't have the means to provide extended learning opportunities.
For most of these kids, the only exposure to the arts that they get is exposure that they get in school. Unfortunately, the school budgets are also tight right now. I want to expose my students to as many art genres and art media as I can.
These are kids who are willing to put in the after school hours to complete a special project, if provided the materials needed to complete it.
My Project
The materials provided by this grant will improve the take-home art kits that my students have for distance learning. Typically, my advanced students learn color mixing and blending with tempera paints. I do not have small portion paints to hand out. This project would provide those for two classes of year two students.
I have also requested some high quality charcoal paper in both black and white so that I can explore this medium with students through a series of online lessons.
My students have very basic art kits. These items will dramatically improve their supply kits and allow for a more varied instruction.
