Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“The artist is not a different kind of person, but every person is a different kind of artist," Eric Hill said, and my students apply this quote in my classroom and express themselves in unique ways every day.

My first grade students are a culturally diverse group of learners.

English is the second language most of the students have learned. Many of them come from broken homes with low income and extreme living conditions. School is the one stable part in their lives. My students have an incredible drive to learn and succeed. They love to show their creativity and have incredible imaginations, although they don't have many opportunities to express themselves through the arts.

My Project

I am requesting to acquire art supplies such as finger paints, glitter paint, stamps, rainbow scratch art, oil pastels, and many other vital art items. These items will enhance my classroom and instructional methods by providing multiple ways that students can express their understanding of concepts. This will help reach multiple types of learners. Students become engaged with hands on activities as well. I can include art across all curriculum activities including math, science, social studies, and reading. For example we can use the stamps to do patterning activities for math, we can use finger paints to paint a tree for each season for science, and we can use the sculpting clay to create our favorite character in a story for a character summary.

Every student is different and has a unique way of expressing understanding.

Each student also processes information differently. Art opens the door for students to explore visual arts, dance, and music. Providing these opportunities can give students a chance to succeed in a variety of ways. This builds confidence and allows them to explore their talents, which ultimately leads to finding a true passion for education.
