Art is Good for the Soul

My Students

My school consists of many lower-income learners. It is culturally and academically diverse. It is a magnet school for gifted students. Our grade level has three general education classes and one accelerated learning class. We work together to optimize learning.

I want my room to be a haven for all.

Having an area with readily available supplies will be both inviting and exciting!

I can’t wait to see students smile as they enter a room filled with countless opportunities to explore creativity. We will dance with flashlights, paint, sing, and create! And, a bonus is that as we create, I integrate many core curriculum standards. Art is the perfect means to sneak in learning for all students!

My Project

Let's be honest. It has been a challenging year. In the thick of a pandemic, giving students the chance to create relieves stress and is good for mental health. Art supplies are expensive and can be hard to organize. This project gives my students the supplies they need to express creativity. It also provides bins and a shelf to provide a central area to organize and store supplies. This will make it easy for kids to get what they need and for me to monitor my supplies. Students can also use pouches, sharpeners and folders at their desks to be prepared for art and arts integration.

When children are allowed to create freely, they can momentarily escape the pressures of uncertainty.

Art is more than coloring and cutting. Art teaches skills. It challenges some, feeds others, and enriches all. The supplies requested in this project will allow my students to paint, create, dance using flashlights for a fun element, and sing! Books and tape measures will allow me to integrate literacy and math into my lessons. Art brings learning to a whole new level and allows students time for fun, joy, and creativity!
