My Students
In the beginning my room is filled with students who are nervous but curious. Art provides a way for us to ease that nervous energy and put it to work. By the end of the year they are able to add words to the pictures they have drawn. They will have moved from just being illustrators to being authors.
My students come from many different cultures.
They are five years old and attend an inner city school. For many students, my classroom is their first experience in school and I want to turn them onto learning! My little ones are filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and an imagination that is endless. I enjoy watching how excited they get when it is time to draw and color in our classroom.
My Project
The students will use the crayons and paints to help establish their writing by drawing pictures in the beginning of the year. By the middle to the end of the year they will be able to add words to their word. Teaching kids how to write without art supplies is almost impossible. Colors allows them to express their creativity until they learn how to write those words. We use play doh to help with fine motor skills the children will use it to create letters and eventually spell words. I integrate art into the educational process to help the children develop a desire and an excitement to learn.
Art is a huge part of the educational process.
I always look for ways to improve my teaching. I have noticed that the children learn more and do better when art is involved. A class without art is dull and doesn't provide the children room for expression. Drawing pictures is one area where all children feel equal providing a great educational spring board.
