ART is Awesome!

My students need new brushes. Our brushes have worked hard and now the bristles are broken so the brushes are either super straggly or have fanned out like hairy mushrooms.

My Students

My students are awesome! They love to create art! We have been creating many art projects in many medias. Oil pastels are a very popular medium with the kids. We are more than half way through the year and our oil pastels are broken and dirty.

My students are an energetic and enthusiastic group of elementary students from a city in Massachusetts called Lowell.

Lowell is an inner city school district and faces many challenges such as funding art education. At home, most of the students have no exposure to art making materials and techniques.

I would like to continue introducing new media and materials each year to the existing curriculum. However, with a limited budget, it is difficult to order additional materials. The students in the school that I work in deserve quality art materials!

My Project

Working with an old tattered paint brush is frustrating. Drawing with nubby oil pastels is difficult. These fresh new materials will make the students happy. It will be easier for them to create their masterpieces. We draw with oil pastels and paint over the drawings with water color paint. Oil and water do not mix, so the drawing shows through paint. This is magic for kindergarten through second grade students. We use other materials in art, but this oil pastel resist is a fan favorite. At this point in the year, the oil pastels are all worn down. The brushes we are using are several years old and have worked hard. These new brushes and oil pastels are necessary to keep the magic going!
