My Project

I am a special education teacher working with students who are being taught how to self regulate and express themselves in a positive and creative way. Our student population is challenged both emotionally, financially, and academically and art is one way in which they can express how they feel and process their complicated emotions.

Our community is very rural and many of our students find safety, acceptance, kindness, and love in the inclusive classrooms we strive to create.

I try daily to provide them with the space and support they need to feel loved, appreciated, and valued. Sometimes art is the best way for them to convey to the world what they are feeling and what they need. The supplies I am requesting will allow the students to have access to the extra that is often needed to get them through the day.

The paint brushes, paint pens, clay, and wood planks will allow them space to express their feelings without the stress of using words which would be such a treat for them. The chipboard sheets and other supplies I am requesting will provide a way for our small school to showcase our students special creations around our school and in the classrooms. What they create will also provide a big boost to their self-esteem when they walk by and see that what they have created has value.
