This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Art is an outlet for children to express themselves and have fun while awakening their creativity. Unfortunately, our art class has been cut due to budge cuts and students no longer have the opportunity or supplies to make projects to be proud of. Art and learning go hand and hand.
I teach 2nd grade in an urban school in the Bronx.
Our student population is amazingly diverse: academically, ethnically, culturally, and economically. My students are a group of very energetic 7 and 8 year old children that come to school everyday with the desire to learn and grow with their peers. Art has a way of taking their learning to the next level and capturing the beautiful pictures that are in their head. These kids don't have much at home but when they are in school, I want them to have everything they need to achieve whatever they want.
My Project
My second grade classroom is typically bustling with activity. The students are reading, writing, and doing math. They are engaged in hands-on science and social studies projects. They are growing and learning throughout the year. But they need basic school supplies, such as markers, paper, paint, crayons, scissors, stamps, and glitter to make this happen.
With this project, I hope to stock my classroom with the art supplies my students need for the entire school year. Funding these supplies through Donors Choose will take the burden off those families who are struggling financially, while providing necessary school materials equitably for all my students. Please consider donating to this project.
Having this project fully funded will provide such joy into these children's time at school.
They will get a chance to release their creativity and see that school can be a place where art becomes alive and part of their learning. They will have an opportunity to get their hands on some great supplies and materials that will motivate them to succeed and have some fun along the way.
