Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is one of the ONLY high schools in the entire state of Oklahoma where students can earn an associate's degree before they complete their high school diploma. To do this requires hard work, dedication, and a great vocabulary. Our students are 79% primarily Hispanic, 93% low SES, and 100% ready to change their futures through education. We have many ESL and ELL students. More than 75% of our students are first-generation high school graduates, and more than 83% first generation college students. These students struggle to learn and acquire the academic English vocabulary necessary for college and career success.
We need your help to give them an equitable chance to be successful in their academic careers, which will, in turn, change their families' destinies.
At long last, we finally have an art class to add to the curriculum at our school. We have not had one at our school in years, and the students have been asking for it specifically! This art class will teach students the fundamentals of art, as well as the techniques to accomplish their visions. Each tool in this cart will go directly to this art class. Whether we are exploring color through painting or even value through the use of charcoal, we will cover everything that a student would need to be prepared to enter a college-level art class. For all of the artists at this school, there is finally an outlet. Please help make this possible with art supplies, a new drying rack, canvases, and more.
