This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I School with students from second to sixth grade. My students are from the inner city and mostly English language learners. They are hardworking, self-motivated young people who are eager to be lifelong learners.

The school's philosophy focuses on leadership skills, with an emphasis on being a critical thinker, scholarly and use 21st-century skills when working in and outside of the classroom.

My scholars want to be the first in their families to attend an institution of higher learning.

My Project

This hands-on project will allow students to use their artistic creativity to build understanding of Social Studies concepts. Working in the arts helps learners to develop creative problem-solving skills. All these materials will be used immediately.

Teaching through the arts can present difficult concepts visually, making them more easy to understand.

Students will create visual paintings or drawings of artifacts that represent an ancient civilization. Students will use markers, color pencils and mechanical pencils to create diagrams. The acrylic paint to create representations of famous buildings or personalities of an ancient civilization. Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
