Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor and privilege of teacher twenty-one amazing second grade students. In my classroom, ninety-five percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. All of my students are at least one grade level behind second grade standards. My class is made up of students that are visual and kinesthetic learners, English learners, and students who require additional emotional and educational support. Each of my students is unique in their own way, but there is one thing they all have in common. They all believe that they can do anything, and they can. How do I know? Because...
They are artists, avid readers, explorers, writers, performers, and mathematicians, that are tech savvy, determined and empathetic.
Each day two things occur in my classroom. First, I deliver twenty-first century educational practices with limited resources. I use Whole Brain Teaching, Step Up to Writing, Conceptual Math, Readers Theater and technology. Second, I learn from students. I learn about the persistent nature of the human spirit that allows you to reach goals despite external limitations. And, I learn about small acts of kindness and empathy that make me believe in the future generation.
My Project
The materials in this project will help with student engagement and creativity. The books provide a place for students to get lost in. They can explore grade level age-appropriate stories that expand their thinking and transcend their world. Engaging in art builds confidence in students who are not proficient in other areas while allowing students an outlet for expression. The soccer equipment provides a physical activity that also teaches students how to work as a team.
As a teacher, I am committed to bringing holistic education to my students in order to address their intellectual, emotional and physical needs.
A multi-tiered system of support ensures that students have equitable access to quality education. The more pathways that are created for them, the easier it will be to keep them engaged in school.
