This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an area where there are few opportunities to view major works of art. Using a document camera will enhance their knowledge in the visual arts by exploring and viewing the works of contemporary and historical art from artists around the world.

My students are from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

We are K-5 elementary school with approximately 1,000 students. We are part of the NYC public school system and we are Title I. We are a Gifted and Talented school and my art program has been an integral part of their education for several years.

My Project

I have been a traveling art teacher for many years and have recently acquired an art room. In the past, it has been difficult showing quality works of art to my students without spending a lot of money on posters and other materials. Now that I have a space, I can inspire my students in a number of mediums by showing them many more works of art. My students will benefit from the use of a document camera because they will have quicker access to many types of art which will take their creativity to higher levels. We currently have access to a multimedia projector as well as a smart board.

I will be able to show my students a wider range of art work from several periods as well as from the great masters in art history.

My students will be able to analyze and synthesize information by viewing 2 dimensional art work from multiple sources which will greatly enhance their depth of knowledge through the curriculum, as well as an appreciation for the visual arts.
