Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! I am a 6th grade ELD teacher at a Title One school in Antioch California. Approximately 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunches and come from low income families. This year I have a wonderful, self contained class of English language learners and we have made some huge steps of progress so far this year. My students' main focus is their language development, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. They have two English classes a day, a core enrichment class, math, science, and PE. None of my students are able to take art because of their need to concentrate on their language skills. Because of this, I try to incorporate as much cooperative learning and art into our regular lessons to give them some creative outlets and allow them to express themselves. We make picture dictionaries, posters, reports, and now we are getting into a lengthy group project in which the students will be making artifacts for a culture they are creating. I am requesting some art supplies to provide them with the materials they will need. Thank you so much for considering our group!
