Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Pablo Picasso said, "The important thing is to create." These words inspire me to combine art into all the subjects. Art allows students to relax and show their learning in an individual way.
My fourth grade students are in a bilingual program.
Half of their day is in Spanish and the other half is in English. They are living in a suburb of a major city. 80% of them receive free or reduced price lunch, so buying even the smallest amount of supplies for school can be a hardship for them.
My Project
My students will use these art supplies in reading by creating visual representations of their understanding. Using markers, crayons and colored pencils they will make posters of characters and settings, problems and solutions. In science they will use them to show the parts of the salmon, draw diagrams and scientific illustrations. In math they will be creating graphs, and illustrating fractions using the markers and crayons. They will be able to illustrate their own stories in writing. Crayons, markers, colored pencils will make our classroom more productive.
All students deserve new crayons and markers.
These art supplies will allow my students to take pride in their learning. When they are showing their learning in a colorful way their learning will stay with them and they will enjoy school.
