This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a small school with a fantastic feeling of community among students, staff, and families. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and many are English Language Learners who are eager to learn and be at school.
My Project
My students love using art as a way to connect to their learning! We love doing art projects to go with the phonics skills we are learning, visualize science concepts, and connect to social studies. Not to mention, art is a great way to practice our skills in listening and following directions!
I have worked hard to integrate art into a variety of content standard areas in my classroom.
Each week, we try to do an art piece that uses the phonics we are studying (R.F.1.2), integrates into our science units (1.LS1.1, 1.ESS1.1), or enhances our social studies units (SS.1.13, SS.1.18). Art is also greatly aligns with the state SEL standards.
These items will help me to have separate supplies for each student to lessen the spread of germs and help with COVID protocols in my classroom.
