This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Art education is an important part of our curriculum, fostering creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression. This year, I am excited to introduce my kindergarteners to the world of clay and pottery!

Working with clay involves pinching, rolling, squeezing, and shaping, which helps develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Clay also provides a rich sensory experience. Its texture, temperature, and malleability offers students a unique and fun way to explore their senses. This tactile exploration helps students understand different textures and materials, promoting sensory development and awareness.

Clay is a versatile medium that allows children to create anything their little minds can imagine! This freedom encourages creativity and imaginative thinking. My students will have the opportunity to shape animals, create pinch pots, coil pots, and other abstract forms. We will paint our creations and finish them off with a glossy sheen.

I can't think of a better way for kindergarten students to develop fine motor skills, express their creativity, and build self-confidence than through hands-on exploration of clay!
