I am a sixth-grade teacher in a small, rural area in Idaho. We are located by a reservation. We celebrate and welcome a wide range of Native American and Hispanic students. As teachers, we received training this past year to support our students experiencing homelessness. I want to provide equal opportunities for all of my students regardless of their situation. Seventy percent of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We are fortunate to have military families, with a local National Guard Unit in our area and an Air Force Base close by. We strive to support and take care of our military families.
Every one of my students has a great desire to learn, explore, and expand their knowledge to their greatest potential.
My students are eager to learn and try new things. I strive to supply each one of my students with the materials needed for a successful educational experience.
My Project
The two hundred ninety students at our school are fortunate to choose a class elective. Their choices include band, choir, drama, media, and art. Approximately ninety of those students have chosen art. Unfortunately, our art supplies for these students are very limited. This project will allow the students taking the art elective to explore and enjoy different types of art media. Our young artist will have the opportunity to try their skills in areas such as sculpturing with modeling clay, painting with acrylics on canvas, Boondoggle crafting, rock painting, and water color painting with watered down paints.
