Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun-loving, smart, and hardworking! Our students come from all across the city to participate in the unique ELL (English Language Learner) and ASD program specific for grades 6-8.

My students come from all different backgrounds to create a positive learning environment, where they will be encouraged to brainstorm, collaborate, and create works of art.

It is truly a unique urban setting.

Students at our middle school take an ​art class for an entire school year as a required elective and specials class and range in different skill levels and abilities.

My Project

In the past years, we have had art posters hung around our classroom. Unfortunately last March, many of these posters were damaged or lost during cleanup from COVID.

These posters were really beneficial to my students as they related to the art lessons we learned about in class.

I am looking to replace these art posters, in addition to some basic organizational supplies to help my students access the materials they will need in class. I am hoping to have these materials up and ready for the 2021-2022 school year and give my students a better sense of "normalcy" in our classroom as they have experienced a lot of change this past calendar year where they can also access their materials. One of the goals we are focusing on is social-emotional learning and I believe having their classroom “back to normal” will help alleviate some uneasiness that they have felt this past school year.
