My students need a comfortable space with a rug to sit and listen to an art history lesson from our smart board or observing an artwork of a famous artist.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in Southwest Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We have a large majority of Hispanic speaking families and a variety of other majorities as well. Art is a form of visual communication that all students can relate to, whether or not they speak English or Spanish. We can all view a wonderful piece of artwork. I teach students ranging from 4 years old and discovering the new world, to students that are 11 to 12 years old, who are taking care of their siblings and possibly accruing more adult roles at such a young age.
Our school is a low income based reduced-priced lunch school, with families that are doing the best they can for their children.
I as an art teacher want to bring quality materials to the classroom for the students to enjoy and learn with. I would like to support their creative outlets and passions for the visual arts.
My Project
The carpet would be used for students to sit down and enjoy observing an artwork during a discussion. For Elementary level students, being active and engaged in the lesson is very important to academic success. As an artist and educator for the fine arts, art history is key to growth and knowledge. One must understand the past to accomplish the present. I believe that changing seating around the classroom will help engage the students. A carpet, would be helpful for comfort and a warming atmosphere. When students are discussing about an artist, for the students to sit on the floor and observe the art as a group would be an awesome way for kids to be engaged in the lesson.
