My Project
I love integrating art into other class subjects. Particularly students post-Covid and very comfortable with touch screens tend to show fewer fine motor skills than in previous classes. Using canvas art to do a paint-along video related to bison and Native Americans, or paint what they see when looking in a microscope is one way that I love to integrate art into our other subject areas. This year when we studied insects, we painted dragonflies. Students are also very proud of their creations and like to bring them home. In a previous project, I was gifted paints and brushes, which are still good to use, however, our canvas supply is running thin and more would be greatly appreciated.
Having a decent amount of canvas at varying sizes allows me to brainstorm creatively for projects that include an artistic element, yet also meet our standards in other subject areas.
There is also elements of relaxation and creativity that come with art, and students don't see art as a stressful assignment compared to say, a test, yet the hands-on activity typically makes the content more meaningful and memorable.
