Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a special education pre-kindergarten teacher teaching in a blended classroom which serves children with and without special needs. 90% of the children in my classroom receive free or reduced lunch and range in age from 3-5 years old. Having two sessions a day, I work with up to 40 children each school day. I believe that it is important to provide the best learning environment for all of my students. Reading books is a part of my daily classroom routine. We gather together in our library picking books that allow us to laugh, learn, and grow together. Our classroom community thrives on the books we share together. The children look forward to coming to school to read and reread books that interest them. More so, they love checking books out of the library to take home and share with their family. Even though I have an extensive classroom library, I am lacking in quality books that celebrate the arts through painting, sketching, photography, and sculpture. Knowing the arts are an integral part of the early childhood curriculum, I want to foster a program that gives my students the opportunities to look and talk about art by famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee & Andy Warhol, create art and develop self confidence as artists. I am asking for developmentally appropriate art books for preschoolers. Through these books, our classroom community and learning will be strengthened as children learn about art. Thank you in advance for your support in fostering the art in our classroom community. These resources will greatly impact the children as they continue to appreciate quality books and develop a love for the arts. My students need sixteen books about art.
