My students need easy to access art supplies by using 8 craft trays, no spill cups, a paint cup carrier, and 6 classroom carry-alls. As kindergarten kids become more independent, they need an easy to access and organize art center to create "masterpieces."

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of you may remember your kindergarten days when you came home with paint, crayon or some evidence of creativity on your clothes. Kindergarten has become a much more academic environment with rigorous curriculum and little time for creating and expressing through art.
I teach in an inner city school with a diverse student population.
My kindergarten students range from students with little opportunities and access to materials to students who have had many opportunities to create and learn. Our school strives to provide opportunities for all of our students so that all may have a rich background as they move through elementary to middle school. With more budget cuts each year, there is less money for anything other than the core curriculum. The few students in my class who have been fortunate to have many experiences and access to many materials, have a stronger vocabulary and make real-world connections more quickly and frequently. I would like to provide similar opportunities to all of my students. So, please help me provide art materials to these eager, creative, energetic, and determined 5 and 6 year-olds.
My Project
I would like to provide space in my classroom for developing artistic expression. I have an easel and access to paper and paint, so all I need are the jars to hold the paint (with lids to help with preservation and tidiness). With these materials, I could provide an independent art center that my students could help manage. I'm also asking for crayon/supply caddies so that each student can have access to the crayons/supplies they need at each table. Not only are the caddies easily accessible, but easy to manage. This is important for teaching organization and independency.
Our rigorous curriculum prevents us from spending time for whole group art lessons.
I usually try to combine art with math or reading when I can. With these materials, I could start mini art lessons then let the students create and express themselves independently, while I work intensively in language arts and math with small groups of students. Students will have more opportunities to create, as well as opportunities to share their ideas and improve in oral language.
