I teach in a small Title I school in Northwest Kansas. My students are a very close-knit group. They have known each other all their lives as there is only one daycare and one preschool in the area so they've been together forever.
My classroom feels more like a great big family.
The students work hard for me, and I work as hard as I can to give them the best education possible. They deserve it! They are so eager to learn and try new things, and I would love to give them more opportunities.
By funding this project you will be creating many developmental benefits for my students. According to research, children who participate regularly in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement. Some of the developmental benefits include motor skills. Many of the motions involved in art, such as holding a paintbrush, are essential to fine motor skills. Art is also beneficial to language development. Young children that are making and talking about art are also increasing their language skills by talking about shapes, colors, and actions. We are requesting art materials like paint, paint brushes, ink pads, crayons, playdough scissors, dot art painters, and paint/collage trays to make growth in all of these important skills possible.
Art education also strengthens decision making and problem solving skills.
The decisions and choices in art will carry over into other aspects of life.
