Art and STEM Supplies for Elementary School in Rural Hawai'i

My Project

We are a Title I school based in a rural community on Hawai'i Island. It has about 570 students; over a quarter are Spanish-speaking, and the rest of the very diverse student body include children of Native Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, and Portuguese descent.

For the first time, we have an Arts and STEM program!

This is exciting, as increasing opportunities for visual literacy assists the kids in many areas of their development and learning - and it's so fun.

All children, grades Kindergarten through 5th, take Art for one quarter. The supplies will provide students with opportunities to engage with a variety of media; all materials also lend themselves to projects that are easy to finish within a 45 minute time frame. These materials include watercolor pencils and crayons (also easy to clean up in a short time frame!). We even need such basic supplies as markers, as we started out with only a small pack. The classes will be doing photography-related projects, including cyanotypes, along with using an instant camera to take photos.

There are 9 STEM classes, and all of these classes are inclusion. We are moving from LEGO builds to engineering with such basic objects as straws, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, and paper cups; we need all kinds of tape so our builds stick together!

We do not have easy access to a color printer at our school, so after receiving one in another Donor's Choose request, I'm asking for replacement toner so that we can continue to be inspired by color printouts - of both our builds and examples of work by famous artists.
