This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In many urban communities, students are not supplied with the same tools and materials found in more affluent areas. My students are growing to be lifelong learners, and they are in need of resources to help them develop and strengthen their understanding of current events.
My sixth graders are bright, loving, and most importantly - unstoppable in their quest to be successful.
Their families support the students, the teacher, and the school. The parents are confident in my abilities as a teacher and with these new relationships and community connections. I enter my room more prepared and driven to provide my students with the supplies which they need.
My Project
I have requested canvases, clay, and sharpies as I have planned some art activities to explore different mediums as we dive into our life science units of cells and genes. I hope to use art to bridge connections with our science content and to encourage students to use the vocabulary and language around our new learning.
Students making connections in their learning deepens their thinking and allows for a natural space for them to see what they learn in school in the world around them.
I have also requested a seed starter kit in order to have students compare sprouts' traits and think about how genetics play a role in what we inherit.
