Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Pre-K Students are culturally diverse and live in an urban area of NJ. Many students qualify for the free or reduced price lunch program which means they live below or near the poverty level. The best thing about my students is they don't know or care about any of the information mentioned above. They come to school each day ready and the willingness to learn.
I love how excited my three to five year old students become when they are given the opportunity to create and experience a new art project, they are so appreciative and eager to encounter new things.
My Project
400 Pre-K students will participate in a 4-week long study of flowers.
Students will learn about the parts of a flower, what flowers need to grow and many ways to represent them through art.
Flowers- need sun water and oxygen to grow. Student will create sunshine that we have so been lacking this winter. We will use a variety of paper paint and glue to create 2D representations of the sun.
Water- Students will learn about why living things need water to grow. We will use multiple materials to represent water in art experiencing such as glitter glue, glitter, gems, and foil to experience water and how liquids are used in art.
Flowers- Students will use a variety of materials such as colored construction paper, glue sticks, and colored masking tape to create 2D flowers. Students will use model magic, paper, pastels and glue to create relief art works of flowers. Students will also learn the process of printmaking by printing silicone flowers to print. Trays, rollers, construction paper and markers will be needed for the print making project.
