This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I would describe our students as high energy and lots of fun. We are a high poverty school with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

As an IB school, all of our students participate in the arts program.

Many make presents for their families and use their art projects to decorate their homes.

We were just named a Center for Excellence by the Colorado Department of Education. Our school and students beat the ‘Odds’ when it comes to academic growth. Above our entrance you can read, “The future walks through our doors every day.”

My Project

We are looking to bring a variety of weaving projects to our students. Chip board looms will be easily warped and ready for weaving. The yarn assortment will be used to create colorful weavings.

What could be more fun than using hula hoops to weave circular rugs in the art room and then exercise with them in the gym!

Our students will delight in making rugs. We plan on collecting t-shirts, cutting them into strips and weaving them into rugs. This project will reinforce the idea of reduce, reuse, and recycle. With your help we will bring a creative idea to life!
