This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a self-contained classroom of 13 students with low-incidence disabilities. This is a brand new classroom in our school, and I am a first-year teacher. There are LOTS of things our classroom needs.

According to the Seneca Academy, art instruction is important for developing motor skills, language and social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, creativity, and innovation.

In the Special Education classroom, art and music can provide therapeutic benefits that deconstruct barriers to learning. I want to provide my students with a variety of materials that they can explore, paints, pastels, and music makers. I want to give them the space to create, but I also want to incorporate researched art and music therapeutic techniques into instruction.
