Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is in a community with newcomer students who have recently arrived from other countries and are seeking ways to find connections with art, people, new communities, and their cultural traditions. The connections are made amidst the barrier of not having a common language and are facilitated by staff and students' value of creating a sense of belonging for each other.

The relationships created between our school community provide a sense of safety for students who have recently arrived from other countries where they may have experienced hardship or been in low-resourced environments.

The art supplies listed: paint, beads, pens, paint markers, and bracelet kits will help empower spaces for newcomer students to build safety and community. The supplies will be used within spaces of art therapy groups and during art events throughout the school year to decorate our community.
