My Students
Oh the places we will go! I would love to take my students to lands they've never even heard of and have them learn of people and customs of those places. If I'm awarded this Time For Kids subscription, it would be an invaluable asset in assisting me with infusing social studies in my reading class.
I work in the Florida school district in a Title I school, servicing lower socio-economically disadvantaged students.
At my work location,95 percent of the students are on free or reduced lunch. Over 50 percent of the students come from homes with one or both parents being migrant workers.
As a reading/language arts/ social studies teacher, I am always looking for new and exciting ways to motivate my students. I believe that the TFK will help enhance their reading literacy as well as their knowledge and understanding of different places and the major events surrounding them.
My Project
The daily use of Time for Kids will give my students the opportunity to take a virtual tour around the world. With TFK infused in my reading curriculum students will be able to experience the Chinese New Year and the customs that are done during this time while the people of China celebrate. Elections are a vital part of the decision making process no matter what state or country. The use of Time for Kids will give my students a walk through the entire political process and how citizens are an important part of who is the choose leader.
If my project is funded, it will alleviate a financial hardship that I will incur trying to expose my students to new and exciting adventures.
Since this is a election year this will allow the students to meet the candidates, find their world views, and learn how they will impact our present in an effort to make our world have a better tomorrow. These world lessons can help prepare my students to excel in many academic arenas.
