This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Ms. Richardson loves traveling! Every four months, I hop on a plane and go to another country to explore and relax...Unfortunately, some of my kids do not have the same privilege; not because they are uninterested but because their families do not have the means to do so. There is where I come in...
I teach in a low-income area in Richmond, VA.
The environment is very structured with a uniform policy. The children in my building are talkative, intelligent, and very street smart; they are motivated by persons who are sincerely concerned about their well-being. All they want is someone to listen to them.
I am a Third grade teacher, though my primary love is Kindergarten! I love teaching because I can literally see a return on my "investment". My kids are active, loud, and very intuitive. I see the potential in them every time they walk through my doorway. I will do everything in my power to make sure they are on point for the Fourth grade.
My Project
I believe in using modern, colorful, and tangible visual aids to teach seemingly complex topics. The globe I had previously was outdated and the paint had faded-hardly an attractive model for my kids to learn from! With a plethora of spinning, inflatable, and talking globes, I will be able to create learning stations utilizing each type which will offer different ways in which to interpret the world visually. They will be able to locate oceans and continents, see where they live in the U.S., and see where the prime meridian and equator lie.
With the resource books, I can create homework activities that will reinforce what is taught in class.
With the flat maps, kids can work with partners and search for oceans and countries based on cardinal directions given.
Just because one is not well-traveled does not mean that they cannot be cognizant of the vast lands that are out there...
Kids enjoy "seeing" the world via a map or globe and pointing to countries that they have heard about on a cartoon they've watched.
I want my kids to be aware of life outside of their neighborhoods; I want them to be intrigued with how others live in other countries. With these new supplies, I feel I will be better-equipped to show them the Earth.
Thanks for listening!
