Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,100 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
I will use these books to teach a two-week unit about holidays around the world. Using quality children’s literature, I can teach students about a variety of cultures, holidays different countries celebrate and learn about the similarities and differences in cultures. Students will earn passport stamps as we 'visit' and learn about different countries. The inflatable globes provide a visual model of our 'flights' to other countries.
The goal of this project is to teach tolerance, appreciate cultural diversity and respect others all over the world regardless of differences.
We can only achieve global peace through educating our children so they will learn to love others.
