Our district is in a budget crunch as I assume most are. I requested a used whiteboard, but there were none available. So I took matters into my own hands and had my husband hang some shower tile as an inexpensive alternative to a whiteboard. Needless to say, it didn't work.
My students are simply incredible.
Since attending a 3-day leadership camp in early October (which we fundraiser for well over a year), the class has returned to school a cohesive and supportive bunch. The sense of community within the classroom and throughout the school is amazing. I can't wait to see where this year takes us!
My Project
With a new white board hanging in the front of the room, students will walk into an inspiring learning environment. Currently the shower tile that is hanging is dingy and dirty. Despite our best efforts to clean the board, it will just not come clean. Because we take pride in our classroom we spend time at the end of each day trying to clean the whiteboard. Having a new white board would enable us to use our time in more valuable ways. We could hang charts from it, display our work and even view our daily lessons without difficulty.
Every day in class we discuss how the decisions we make affect those around us, often in ways that we may never know.
Should these deserving students receive a new white board, I am certain that when they look up to the board that they will not only see their lessons but realize that their learning matters and that people really do care about them and what they have to offer this world.
