My students need a clean, comfortable rug to share and collaborate together. We use our rug every day to debate, ask questions, greet each other, investigate, and share our thinking.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into class every day full of wonder, full of energy, and full of resilience. Each day in the classroom is a chance to shine and start fresh no matter what outside distractions may await them at home or in their community. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title I School in Massachusetts, where 61% percent of our students are considered economically disadvantaged.
A handful of students receives plastic bags of food on the weekend, and we have Catie's Closet on hand for students that need clothing. We have students from a variety of backgrounds. We host students that have just arrived in the United States, we have special education students, students with visual and auditory deficits, and students with trauma. My students are so much more than these descriptions. These amazing kids just want a chance, a glimpse into a future, where they are allowed to dream big.
My Project
Our class rug is our hub! It is where we meet each day to greet each other, celebrate successes, stretch and breathe, share thinking, and independently read. Unfortunately, our current rug is not in the best shape. As you can imagine it has seen its share of wear and tear with all those busy minds sitting on it each day. We need a gathering place that is colorful, friendly and big enough for everyone to sit on and have a place.
It is amazing and inspiring to think about all the important conversations and thinking that happens on our rug each day, which is why we need a new rug.
A new rug ushers in new thinking, and I would be so grateful if you could help our class out!
