This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every football player who plays in the NFL started out in Little League flag football. I'm sure most of them threw the Nerf ball around with their mom and dad. And they dreamed of being football stars some day. Well, many of those dreams came true for the players who now play in the NFL.
Our school is located in the heart of a large metropolitan city.
The setting is a culturally diverse school with students from over 20 countries. They speak over 15 different languages. We serve over 250 kids. The majority of our population has lived in the US less than 2 years. Many of them have been here for only a few months. And most of our kids have not been in a formal education setting before, let alone a PE class. So they are fortunate and will get to experience a quality physical education program at our school.
My Project
My students need a set of footballs for indoor and outdoor play. My goal this year is to develop a football unit for our students. I want to teach them the basics. All of our students are from other countries. In fact when I say football they think of the American game of soccer. They do NOT know about the NFL. So I'm seeking donations to get leather footballs. I have nerf balls and cones. Now I just need the regular leather ball. With these simple items I can develop a curriculum to teach them about the game of football.
