My students need items to make learning about controlling your feelings more tangible and the use of clay and paint is a creative way for students to express their emotions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the school social worker for Northview Middle School in Indianapolis, In. I have the opportunity to work with some of the most brightest, creative and talented students. Our students strive to do their best, but are often faced with social, emotional and behavioral challenges that interfere with how great they truly are.
Our students are faced with challenges, but those challenges don't have to define who they are.
Therefore, because our students face many challenges at home and school, it can be overwhelming. Students sometime act out because they are not able to fully articulate and process their emotions. My goal is to support my students in helping them learn how to regulate their emotions and communicate their feelings.
My Project
Emotions are normal and a part of life. We all experience feelings of sadness, anger and frustration at varies times. The key to managing our emotions is learning how to control them. The items I requested will assist me with teaching my students about emotional regulation.
The folders will be used as a handbook/guide for them to use after they have successfully completed the program.
The stress balls will be given as interventions to help relieve stress or tension. The coloring books and pencils will be used when we discuss relaxation/coping skills. The modeling clay and paint will allow students the freedom to express themselves and will provide a nice little keepsake.
