Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in the Bronx. My students are 95% African Americans and Latinos. Most of my students are below grade level in English and math. Many of my students have emotional and learning disabilities.
My students are driven, creative and they have grit.
My students come from different parts of this country and the world, they speak different languages and they have different cultures; but they have a common thread and that is the desire to prosper and become better people through education.
My Project
My architecture classroom project is to get portable drafting boards for my students to learn and master the technical aspects of architecture drawings. The students first learn about each drafting tool, from the architecture scale ruler, the T-square and the triangles, how to use each tool, and how to draft an architecture drawing.
My students come to the classroom and the first thing they do is pick up the rulers to explore concepts of architecture and draw using the drafting tools.
My students did not know how scale ruler look or how to use it, they didn’t know how to use the T-square ruler and triangle to draft horizontal and vertical lines, but they are becoming architecture explorers.
