Aquariums for Science & Research

Help me give my students the experience in building and maintaining an aquarium with live plants and fish to use for future water quality experiments and enjoyment in the classroom.

My Project

I have three 10-gallon tanks in my classroom that students would like to set up for fish with live plants, but we need filters, timers, gravel and all the other essentials to maintain the aquariums. Students will be maintaining the tanks, completing water quality labs, as well as having a fish tank with live plants helps students relax and focus while learning in class. In AP Environmental Science we will also be using the materials to create eco-columns (mini ecosystems in a bottle). There are many opportunities for STEM research labs that can be performed with having fish tanks in our high school science class. The items purchased will help in setting up and maintaining the fish and plant tanks.
