My Students

My middle school students are amazing! They are a part of a small rural school district that strives to achieve on all levels. Like many rural communities, we have been affected by the lingering economic situation. Our school has a very high rate of students participating in the free and reduced price lunch program. Many families have lost their income because of businesses closing and jobs being scaled back. Resources at school have also been cut drastically because of declining enrollment when families look for employment elsewhere.

My Project

Have you ever wondered why many doctors’ office waiting rooms display fish tanks? Well, turns out, fish tanks can have a calming and therapeutic effect for many individuals. Having an aquarium in the classroom will be amazing!

Our classroom will feel the effects of a calm aquarium all day long.

Fish can have a dramatic positive effect on mental and physical health.

Research has shown that as little as 5 minutes contact with nature features, like an aquarium, can significantly decrease stress, reduce anger and fear, and increase pleasant feelings. It’s almost as if the calmness of the tank provides a meditation like focus and serenity. Help us focus and enjoy!
