This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are truly remarkable, and I'm excited to share how each resource will contribute to their learning and development.
What I Love About Our Students:
Our students are enthusiastic, curious, and incredibly resilient. Many of them come from diverse backgrounds and face various challenges, but their eagerness to learn and explore new horizons is truly inspiring. They're not just students; they're budding scientists and environmental stewards who deserve the opportunity to engage in hands-on, experiential learning.
Aquaponics System: This key resource will offer a real-world, interactive learning experience. It will teach our students about sustainable agriculture, biology, and the delicate balance of ecosystems. They'll witness the interconnectedness of plants and fish in a closed-loop system, gaining practical knowledge that can't be replicated in traditional classroom settings.
Water Quality Testing Kits: These kits will allow our students to monitor and analyze water quality parameters in the aquaponics system. This hands-on experience is a valuable science lesson that connects theory to practice, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental science.
Grow Lights: In the often-unpredictable Chicago climate, grow lights provide a consistent light source, ensuring our plants receive the necessary light for growth. This resource will enable students to explore the role of light in plant growth, photosynthesis, and the impacts of light quality on aquaponics systems.
Goals for the Project:
Our primary goal is to provide our students with an engaging and immersive educational experience that connects them with nature, fosters scientific curiosity, and imparts critical knowledge about sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation. We aim to instill a sense of responsibility for our planet and empower our students to make informed, sustainable choices.
