Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school with students from second to sixth grade. My students are from the inner city and are mostly English Language Learners. Our school is a pilot school. The school's philosophy focuses on leadership skills with an emphasis on critical thinking and 21st-century skills.
My students are hardworking, resourceful, self-motivated young people who are eager to be lifelong learners.
The majority of the students who attend our school will be the first in their families to attend college.
My Project
Recently my students were creating portraits of historical figures for their Social Studies class and the materials they were lacking were multicultural markers and multicultural colored pencils. I do not want this to happen again. Students will use these supplies in other subject areas.
Multiculturalism is important for my students' education today because it is important for each child to build a positive sense of self, and to respect the cultural diversity in others.
The borders will be used to bring color to our whiteboard, as my students' work is being displayed. Using the Arts to foster an appreciation for the diverse world we live can only benefit us all.
