My students come from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a very large school, but the sense of community is wonderful. Our administration, teachers, and parents work together cohesively to ensure our campus is a welcoming environment. A major goal of our campus is to close achievement gaps. We need to support our 35% economically disadvantaged population while also pushing our high achievers to show growth.
Our goal is to "Build Leaders of Tomorrow" yet we lack technology to help prepare our students for the future.
Our students want to be Makers, Builders, Creators, Designers, Producers, Architects, Writers, and so much more. Their dreams are endless. As a community, we want them to see they can be all they dream!
My Project
Students would use Dash and Dot as part of our library Makerspace. What better way to teaching students the real life application of reading, writing, and math than with coding a fun robot? Dash and Dot will motivate our students to be problem solvers and divergent thinkers. I imagine my students listening to a story, finding the problem, using Dash and Dot to solve their problem in some creative way, and then writing their response.
One robot can incorporate so many subjects at a variety of levels- closing achievement gaps for ALL students!
Dash and Dot can help prepare our students to be true 21st century producers by working collaboratively, using critical thinking skills, and building on their creativity. That's a lot of great stuff for a tiny robot!
