This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students range from kindergarten through eighth grade. My students come from different cultures, different language backgrounds, and different socioeconomic classes. Some students are fortunate enough to have a stay-at-home parent who is available to provide support and stability for them. Other students have two full-time working parents who have very little time to spend with their children.

Although my students come from different backgrounds, the community is all dedicated to providing the best education possible.

Students are eager to come to school and are ready to learn. The educators and community build a partnership to obtain the resources needed in the classroom to help strengthen their math skills. Our school's focus is to adjust our math instruction to make sure students know the skills needed to master their current grade level skills. As a STEM specialist, I will provide students opportunities to apply their math skills to complete STEM design challenges. I will focus on the geometry standards and measurement and data standards for all grade levels.

My Project

As a STEM Specialist teacher, I service students from kindergarten through fifth grade. These materials will be used to STEM design challenges that allow students across the grade level to apply geometry, measurement, and data skills. The manipulatives will help me address the following Measurement & Data standards: K.MDA.1, K.MDA.2, 1.MD.A.1, 1.MD.A.2, 1.MD.C.4, 2.MD.A.1, 2.MD.D.10, 3.MD.B.4, 3.MD.C.5, 3.MD.D.8 . I will also be able to address the following Geometry standards K.G.A.2, K.G.A.3, K.G.B.5, K.G.B.6, 1.G.A.1, 1.G.A.2, 2.G.A.1, 3.G.A.1. Not only will students apply math standards using these materials, they will also apply critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, creativity, and cooperation skills when solving the design challenges.
