With this project, I plan to use the Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards to purchase new, engaging resources that support mental health and reinforce my district’s Applied Educational Neuroscience practices in my multilingual 7th and 8th grade classroom. Some of the materials I hope to buy include brain breaks, brain labs, and lessons on neuroplasticity—all designed to help students better understand what’s happening in their brains. I've found that when my students understand why their brains react a certain way, they’re more able to process information, regulate their emotions, and develop important self-awareness skills. This understanding supports their social and emotional growth, helping them navigate the challenges of being twelve, thirteen, and fourteen with more resilience and less frustration.
I’m especially excited to bring even more energy and joy into our classroom with Escape Room photo props and interactive puzzles!
We use escape rooms often to review and reinforce content, and I know my students will love celebrating their victories—or even their hilarious fails—with silly, themed pictures. This not only makes learning fun but also fosters a sense of belonging and community. The puzzles will be used during our daily community-building warm-ups. These quick, collaborative tasks have become a favorite part of our routine. They encourage teamwork, communication, and empathy—skills that are vital for social and emotional learning. Plus, they get students talking, which is huge in a multilingual classroom where everyone is learning English together and building connections across cultures.
