My students need four iPads. I have a number of special needs students that would benefit from having speech-to-text capability to help with writing activities and access to audio versions of their textbooks.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in a rural and agricultural community in the Central Coast region of California. The district serves students scattered over approximately 600 square miles and currently has a total enrollment just over 300. Though we are a small district tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, we believe that our students still benefit from the conveniences of a modern classroom.
Many of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and any help that the district can obtain makes a huge difference.
Our kids are great and deserve the benefits of a 21st-Century education.
My Project
My students are a diverse bunch, and include a number with special needs. These kids are wonderful, but do need some extra help to get them on a level playing field with their peers. Skills such as reading a textbook or writing an essay which come easy to some can be challenging for my special needs students. Not only that, but our school has only started to incorporate technology like laptops and smart-boards in the classroom.
If my special needs students had access to some of the latest hardware and software, it would be one less challenge for them to overcome.
