Ms. Johnson from Charlotte NC is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need a MacBook Air to take online classes, attend virtual professional development, and plan and facilitate fun and engaging lessons for my students in our virtual classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I serve a fun group of sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade scholars in a Title I school near Charlotte. Most of the scholars I teach come from low-income households, and over 90% receive free or reduced-price lunch but they are ready to learn each and every day. They receive government assistance and some are even homeless. They are lacking the most basic school supplies like paper and pencil. As teachers, we often provide these materials. Many times we pay for these out of our own pockets.
These students come to school escaping circumstances many of us could never imagine dealing with as an adult.
For many of them, school is a place of solace, a time of peace in a world of chaos.
The use of a MacBook Air would support my growth as a professional and also support student learning. I intend to use the MacBook Air to participate in online professional development opportunities, take online classes pertaining to my career, and create and facilitate engaging lessons for my students during remote learning.
My virtual learning environment will be greatly improved with the addition of a MacBook Air because it will allow me to further my professional learning and increase student growth as well as seamlessly integrate more technology that would improve my students' learning outcomes.
Furthering my own education would allow me to continue to provide effective and engaging lessons to my students. I would also use it as a communication tool between myself and the families I work with. Having this device would allow me to give the students the support and engagement they need during this very difficult time.
