A typical day in my P.E. class is ever-changing. Less waiting time and more activity time is the goal. By the end of the year I want students to be engaged in activities for ninety percent of the class. Technology is the key in being successful.
My students are diverse, energetic, smart, and eager to learn ways to stay healthy and do activities they can enjoy in school and out.
Our school comprises over seven hundred students from grades pre-kindergarten through sixth. Each and every student pass through my gymnasium at least twice a week. All of my students come from many different backgrounds and speak several different languages.
My Project
We are completely reworking the P.E. program in general. The trend is more technology, less waiting time, and more teaching while in P.E. With the Apple TV and accessories, students will be able to interact with the large projector screen being installed in the gym. We will be able to have a wide range of activities by streaming the iPad through the Apple TV. We also have several student iPads that they can show everyone the things we work on while in P.E. A typical day would start with the students coming into the gym and being engaged with an activity via the Apple TV. After the warm-up, the students may work on creative dance or gymnastic routines. They will be able to take pictures and record them. At the end of class, they will show everyone their creations. Finally, we can use the 'Plickers' app to asses student knowledge learned during that class.
Students will be better able to learn by either being active or crossing over some math, language arts, science, and history into the P.E.
curriculum. By obtaining this technology, students will have less waiting time and a wide variety of activities to help stimulate their brain for the remainder of the day.
