My students are just like many students in classrooms all over the country. We have a wide range of learning styles and abilities. We have students who come from single-parent homes to homes where they are many family members living with them. Some students speak other languages at home and then English at school.
Just like our students, technology is constantly growing and changing.
In order for students to keep up with this age of technology, they need to be able to use it. Getting technology into the hands of kids gives them an extra spark and helps them to grow as learners. We are lucky for students to be able to use computers at our school, but in this expanding world, it's not always enough. There are so many more things that can be done with technology today that we can give to students to help them learn more about the world and to add that spark to make them want to learn.
My Project
Every year more and more technology comes out and with the cost of it, it is hard for schools and classroom teachers to keep up to expose students to everything that can be done in this digital age.
Students these days are growing up where there has always been wifi and hand-held devices.
They learn from a very early age how to use them. They learn faster than we do and can figure out how to do things with them that we didn't even know about.
Students in my class would be able to use these as part of a center of 4 that my classroom currently has, to bring it up to 6, to reach more learners. The iPad Minis are used for differentiated math centers (websites and QR code games), ELA centers (digital storybooks and word work activities), Kahoot! review games, student digital portfolios, Class Dojo, and video interviews. Using these resources will be a great way to reach more students and spark interest in learning. It's also a great stepping stone for students as they do more and more with technology as they get older.
