My Students

Located in a town off the coast of North Carolina, I teach in a small school that houses fourth and fifth-grade students. They have the beach and Cape Lookout National Seashore and Lighthouse less than twenty miles away from them.

My students are eager to learn and explore the community outside of Carteret County.

This small school setting provides my students with a close-knit community. My upcoming fourth-grade students are transitioning from primary school to upper elementary, which can be a tough transition. Half of my students are low income and do no get to experience the world outside of their little town. School is their safe place where everyone is treated equally, regardless of their background and the strong community of the school allows everyone to feel like they belong.

My Project

How often do you use your cell phone, iPad, or computer? Every day, adults have access to the internet where we are able to explore the world and find out answers to questions we have instantaneously. My students are able to explore through their Chromebooks, however, creating projects can be difficult. iPads are more student-friendly and allow for easier, hands-on learning experiences.

This iPad will give my students equitable access to 21st-century skills that some of us take for granted and allow them to explore and create projects.

The iPad will also allow for students to create their own pieces of work, explore through virtual field trips, and check their answers when completing task cards. It will also allow my ESL students to use the Google translate app when struggling with the English language. This iPad will reach every student in my class.

The iPad will help make a difference in my classroom by allowing all students to discover learning themselves. I hope students will learn to be confident when learning and be creative when making projects. I hope some students find their passion through using digital learning.
