My class is always filled with smart, talented, eager-to-learn students. When they arrive in August, they are so young. I know that during the months that we spend together, they are going to grow and blossom into young readers, writers, spellers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. Some arrive already knowing how to read, while others don't even know the alphabet yet. It's always fun to watch them show what they know and share the talents they have. My class is truly a teaching and learning community.
What I love most about the population of students in my class is that they are so diverse.
Because we are located near the energy corridor, my students come from all over the world. Some are native Texans while others, including me, have moved here from other states around the country and even from other countries around the world. What is special about this mix is that each child has so much knowledge to offer to the rest of the class. Their schemas are filled with facts about different places and cultures. We all learn so much from each other just because of who we are and where we come.
My Project
This iPad will open up communication between parents and their children. My students are always excited to go to math and reading stations during school. However, when they get home and parents ask what they've done all day, they don't always have an answer.
Students in my class will use this iPad to capture what they're doing in class and then post the picture to their SeeSaw account.
Parents will see the post and know what their child is learning about in school. This will help them to open up conversations about the school day at home.
If this iPad gets funded through DonorsChoose.org, communication between children and their parents about how the school day went will blossom!
