This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Technology is changing every day and education is, too. I want to bring an interactive learning center to our class through the use of Amazon's Alexa, a cloud-based voice service. In order to use Alexa, we will need the Echo Dot Kids Edition, a voice-controlled computing device.
Alexa will be our classroom assistant for students to search questions and receive answers, listen to stories, spell words, find definitions, and learn synonyms while they type on their laptop.
Students will work on fluency when asking a question to Alexa. It is important to speak clearly and not too fast or slow for Alexa to understand. My students will complete many tasks with the assistance of Alexa while they work on their laptop.
Students will benefit from listening read-aloud books and internet articles from the laptop and from Alexa. Alexa can tell them a story and students can use their imagination to write about what happens next. Alexa will play instrumental music while students type away their imagination during our creative writing block. Alexa will be used as a randomization tool with my students. She will pick a number, flip a coin, and roll a die. Students will use the Echo buttons to play games to encourage communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. My students ask additional questions after reading an informational story. Alexa will help provide students with answers to their questions.
All this interaction with Alexa will definitely be recorded on Google documents on their laptop. Also, the Apple Pencil will come in handy for one of their iPads to record their work as they work at this station.
